Peace Prayers 2010
There will be a short service of Peace Prayers on Clayhill Green, West Hill, at 3 pm on Sunday, 24th October 2010. We will meet there regardless of the weather!
All will be very welcome for this important ecumenical occasion.
In 2001 three pine trees were planted – ‘for Peace’ - on the Green, which overlooks Epsom. In most years since that year there have been prayers said for peace to mark the end of
The Week of Prayer for World Peace.
Clayhill Green is on the right hand side of the road between Epsom and Christ Church where the road rise in a short hill – you can see the three pine trees there.
Do come, you will be very welcome!
There are refreshments afterwards in Christ Church Hall.

PRAYERS FOR PEACE, 2009 - Sunday, 18th October, at 3 pm
Thirty two people of Epsom gathered on Clayhill Green, West Hill, Epsom to pray for peace on 18th October 2009. This is a spot where three pine trees have been planted 'for peace' and it was the day that ended the Week of Prayer for World Peace.
Those there came from all the local Christian denominations and there were also representatives
of the Baha'i faith. (see footnote)
The day was perfect and we all felt united in our prayer and our desire for peace in our troubled world. On the service sheet were printed the words of an African traditional prayer:
'May peace reign over the earth ... and every ill word be driven out into the wilderness, into the virgin forest.' If only that prayer could come true in our world today !
The Bethlehem Peace Light shown in the above picture was in the centre of our Prayer circle this was originally organised by a mission - Light into Darkness, for children in need. Since 1986, there has been a great deal of co-operation between many countries to allow the light to travel throughout many European Countries and on to America.
Each year, a child fetches the light from the grotto in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. The light is then flown to Austria from where it is distributed at a Service of Dedication to delegations from across Europe who take it back, with a message of Peace, to their own countries for use at ecumenical services throughout the Continent, even as far as Epsom!
All are welcome to ‘Prayers for Peace’ for the Week of Prayer for World Peace.
It is arranged by Churches Together in Epsom

Can there be any more important matter than praying for peace in our time
Do come! You will be very welcome!
Three core principles establish a basis for Baha'i teachings and doctrine: the unity of God, the unity of religion, and the unity of humankind. From these postulates stems the belief that God periodically reveals his will through divine educators, whose purpose is to transform the character of humankind and develop, within those who respond, moral and spiritual qualities. Religion is thus seen as orderly, unified, and progressive from age to age.
Throughout history, God has revealed Himself to humanity through a series of divine Messengers, whose teachings guide and educate us and provide the basis for the advancement of human society. These Messengers have included Abraham, Krishna, Zoroaster, Moses, Buddha, Jesus, and Muhammad. Their religions come from the same Source and are in essence successive chapters of one religion from God.
